Proposal of grouping of early land plants based on in situ spores
Original language description
In situ spores from forty-one Silurian and Early Devonian plant genera with seventy species are reported. The main plant groups include rhyniophytes, trimerophytes, lycophytes, and plants of uncertain affinity. Plant species are grouped based on their in situ spores. The plants yielded spores belonging to eleven dispersed genera and seventeen species. The most abundant spore genus is Apiculiretusispora, and the second is Retusotriletes. Based on their in situ spores Trimerophytales predominantly produced the same spore type (Apiculiretusispora). The spores of three lycophyte plant species yielding in situ spores can be assigned to three different dispersed spore taxa. Zosterophylls are divided into a Calamospora Group and a Retusotriletes Group. All six plants of uncertain affinity yielded the same Apiculiretusispora spore type. Almost all spores isolated from one parent plant species belong to the same spore type.
