A rheological model for the rate-dependent Prandtl-Ishlinskii model

  • Original language description

The rate-dependent hysteresis nonlinearity limits the performance of the smart materials in different micro-and nano-positioning applications. In recent studies, we propose the rate-dependent Prandtl-Ishlinskii model to characterize the rate-dependent hysteresis nonlinearities in smart material-based actuators. In this study, we introduce a rheological model to characterize the rate-dependent Prandtl-Ishlinskii model. We use this model to evaluate the energy dissipation due to the rate-dependent hysteresis nonlinearity. The proposed model is invertible and can be used to enhance the performance of a number of smart material-based actuators such as piezoceramic and magnetostrictive actuators.
