Degeneracy of tetrahedral partitions produced by randomly generated red refinements
Original language description
In this paper, we survey some of our regularity results on a red refinement technique for unstructured face-to-face tetrahedral partitions. This technique subdivides each tetrahedron into 8 subtetrahedra with equal volumes. However, in contrast to triangular partitions, the red refinement strategy is not uniquely determined for the case of tetrahedral partitions which leads to the fact that randomly performed red refinements may produce degenerating tetrahedra which violate the maximum angle condition. Such tetrahedra are often undesirable in practical calculations and analysis. Thus, a special attention is needed when applying red refinements in a straightforward manner.
