The combined UAM-AERO/RAMS modelling system has been applied to study the dynamics of photochemical gaseous species and particulate matter processes in the eastern Mediterranean area between the Greek mainland and the island of Crete. The model is applied to simulate atmospheric conditions for two periods, the first between 11-17 July 2000 and the second between 25-30 July 2000. The spatial and temporal distribution of gaseous and particulate matter pollutants has been extensively studies together withidentification of major emission sources in the area. New post-processors werw developed for the UAM-AERO model for evaluating datailed emission inventories for biogeniccompounds, resuspended dust and sea salt. In addition, modifications were performed in the model to include the capability to study new particle formation. Comparison of the model results with measured data are performed.
