    A method is proposed for determination of the packing characteristic size on the basis of a mathematical model, describing the liquid phase spreading in a packed -bed column with deflecting rings. The mathematical model gives the theoretical irrigatio ondensity as a function of the packing characteristic size and the width of deflecting ring. The method is aimed at finding the minimum of the variance between theoretical and experimental data for irrigation density at various values of the characteristcsize.
