Use of Pressure Fluctuations to Determine Online the Regime of Gas-Solids Suspensions from Incipient Fluidization to Transport
Original language description
An effective monitoring method, based upon measurements and processing the fluctuating pressure signal within a bed, is presented. The developed technique makes it possible to on-line determine the actual hydrodynamic states of a fluidized bed spanning awide range of operation regimes from the onset of fluidization through vertical pneumatic transport. The procedure employs the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) of a successive time series of pressure fluctuations, representing the fluidization behavior, anddetermines the fluidization characteristic of a desired bed. On the basis of this characteristic, the present study provides a qualitative and quantitative classification of modes of fluidization. Experimental measurements were performed in a glass, transparent column with an inner diameter (ID) of 8 cm and height of 600 cm.
