Dependence of Granular Materials Homogenization on Geometrical Aspects in Commonly Used Mixers via DEM.
Original language description
The manipulation (transport, mixing, segregation etc.) with powders and granular materials can be crucial for the quality of a final product. Detailed descriptionnand analysis of granular flow phenomena from the first principles is therefore very valuable. Here, simulations of granular mixing and segregation via discrete element method(DEM) of two types of mixers are performed and compared with experimental measurements. In the horizontal rotating drum mixer segregation of spherical particles with different diameters is studied. Different steady states are observed and their stability in dependence on the period of rotation and on the size of the system is discussed. Effect of operating conditions on granular flow dynamics and process of homogenization in the industrial paddle mixer is also analyzed. Global flow patterns development can be observed in both experiments and simulations.
