Resource Recovery Potential of Bottom Ash from Waste-to-Energy in Prague.

  • Original language description

Bottom ash (BA) from waste-to-energy (WtE) plants contains valuable components like ferrous scrap, non-ferrous metals, or glass, which can be recovered. Residual mineral fraction of bottom ash can be used in construction industry, however, its utilization is, determined mainly by national legislation. We analyzed the composition of BA from WtE plant Prague and found that it contains 14-23 % of glass, 1.8–5.1 % of ceramics, 11-16 % of magnetic fraction, 8.5-10.3 % of ferrous scrap, and 1.6-2.2 % of non-ferrous metals. Contents of these components were also studied with respect to the BA particle size as it is the decisive parameter for their recovery. A technological approach for efficient recovery of ferrous scrap and non-ferrous metals will be presented as well as the evaluation of economic potential for metal recovery.
