The influence of working parameters for the up-concentration of metal aluminum from the fine fraction of incineration bottom ash by wet shaker table.
Original language description
In the year 2019, the European Union generated 225 Mt. of municipal solid waste (MSW). The management of this waste stream is a relevant factor for European policy prioritizing the energy recovery to landfilling. Incineration is a common practice in the treatment of MSW. Besides that, the generated incineration ashes have been proved profitable as a suitable material for construction or a metal resource. The recovery of valuable metals from the incineration bottom ash (IBA) coarse fraction is a common practice, however the fine fraction is usually rejected. This study proposes the optimization of the wet shaker table working parameters for the treatment of the incineration bottom ash fine fraction up to 2 millimeters to up-concentrate the elemental aluminum in the light-density product. Results showed that the amplitude of the shakes is not relevant. The amount of wash water was in all cases studied relevant to achieve good results. Besides, in the treatment of the fine fraction up to 0.5 millimeters, the increment of tilt decreases the content of elemental aluminum in the up-concentrated fraction and increases the recovery. Meanwhile, the treatment of the coarse fraction 0.5-2.0 millimeters, the raise of the frequency of the shakes resulted increase in the content and a decrease in the recovery of elemental aluminum.
