Possibilities of fly ash/APCr treatment in waste-to-energy plant: the environmental respective

  • Original language description

Fly ash and/or air pollution control residues (abbreviated as APCr in the summary) are the solid residues produced in the flue gas treatment system of waste-to-energy (WtE) plants. Generally, APCr are considered hazardous waste, but the produced amount and the content of valuable ncomponents, especially metals and salts, make these materials suitable secondary sources for recovery. Currently, hydrometallurgical processes are more widely used for APCr management. This paper focuses on the application of FLUWA/FLUREC and HALOSEP in 3 Czech WtE plants and compares the processes in terms of their environmental impact. The results show that it is possible to remove the hazardous properties and at the same time recover/utilise the valuable materials present in the APCr. The selection of a suitable treatment method should be tailored to the specific characteristics of the investigated APCr.
