Carbon-carbon coupling of primary bio-alcohols over solid chemo-catalysts. TN02000044/1-V43
Original language description
The first aim of our work is to investigate chemo-catalysts in terms of their activity and selectivity in carbon-carbon coupling of ethanol and/or butanol in laboratory continuous-flow reactors. Basic high-surface-area MgO (300 m2g−1) is emphasized due to its low toxicity and easy recycling. This MgO and its chemo-catalytic properties are modified with activated carbon and compared with a conventional chemo-catalyst of aldol condensation reaction and with selected alkali, alkaline earth, lanthanide, and transition metal oxide chemo-catalysts. The second aim of our work is to investigate the selectivity of the transformation of ethanol to butanol also in terms of techno-economic process analysis. The comprehensive understanding of the first step transformation during the C-C coupling of ethanol to butanol provides realistic insight into possibilities of utilizing of biomass for platform chemicals and liquid bio-fuels.
