SIMULTANEOUS MEASUREMENTS OF CCN CONCENTRATIONS AT TWO LEVELS ABOVE THE GROUND WITH DUAL COLUMN CCNC

  • Original language description

Cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) are aerosol particles in the atmosphere that allow water vapor to condense and form cloud droplets. The concentration and properties of CCN may affect precipitation amount and intensity, heavy wheather events and atmospheric dynamics, Andreae et al. (2004). Knowledge of the spatial and temporal distribution in the atmosphere is essential to incorporate the effects of CCN into meteorological models of all scales, Huang et al. (2007). Our laboratory performs measurements of CCN concentrations over the National Atmospheric Observatory Košetice (NAOK), a rural background site in the Czech Republic. The first results of these measurements were presented by Mishra et al. (2022). In this work, we have used the NAOK facility in the form of a 250 m tall tower and have started to measure CCN concentrations on the ground (4 m) and at 230m in parallel since the end of spring 2024. Comparison of the vertically measured CCN concentrations will then show the representativeness of the ground-based measurements (4 m) to higher layers (230 m) where cloud formation is already occurring. The first experience with these measurements is presented in this work.n
