Original language description
A set of experiments of bubble formation from a submerged orifice above a gas chamber was carried out to reveal whether the transition from periodic to seemingly random bubbling exhibits the features of chaotic dynamics. Effects of gas (nitrogen) flow rate, chamber volume, orifice diameter and liquid (water) level were studied using the chamber pressure fluctuations complemented by the anemometric measurements of the velocity fluctuations in the liquid. The obtained results confirmed the presence of thelow-dimensional chaotic attractor in the regime of aperiodic bubbling at the orifices having the diameter of 1 mm and larger. Bubbling from smaller orifices displayed rather random features. Unlike some other authors, no clear period doubling sequence leading to chaotic behaviour was observed within the limited set of experimental conditions.
