Vortex geometry of a jet-in-crossflow discharge
Original language description
The paper demonstrates that a specific portion of vorticity, the so-called residual vorticity (associated with the local relative rigid-body rotation near a point obtained after extracting the pure shearing part of motion), provides a proper kinematic quantity for the identification of a vortex. In the case of a jet-in-crossflow discharge, the vortex geometry ? described by the residual vorticity ? is nearly circular, while the vorticity distribution is characterized by the well-known prolonged shape due to a non-local linearly oriented shear.
