On the Correlation Between Free Volume and Viscosity of Polysulphone Melt Viscosity

  • Original language description

Temperature dependent viscosity curves and pressure?volume?temperature (PVT) data were interconnected in order to estimate pressure effect on flow behavior of polysulphone melt. Shear viscosity measurements at three temperatures were carried out using capillary rheometer. Temperature influence on rheological behavior was evaluated via the Carreau-Yasuda model. PVT data at selected pressures from 15 to 200 MPa were determined in the wide temperature range covering the viscosity data. From PVT diagrams free volume parameter was calculated through the Simha?Somcynsky equation of state (SSeos). A recently proposed modification of interrelation between viscosity and the dependencies of SSeos free volume parameter was used for estimation of shear viscosity pressure dependency. Determination of pressure effect on polysulphone melt viscosity using modified capillary rheometer confirmed applicability of the viscosity and free volume behavior interconnection.
