Velocity field around a falling particle
Original language description
Based on PIV measurements a velocity field around a spherical particle gravitationally settling in water was determined. The experiments were performed for rotating as well as for non-rotating particles at particle Reynolds numbers varied from 3000 to 17000 and at Stokes numbers varied from 1000 to 5000. The particles impacted and rebounded from a smooth horizontal wall.
