Long-term spatio-temporal variability of the soil water content in the small-scale area
Original language description
Soil moisture plays a key role in the hydrological cycle by partitioning of precipitation between evapotranspiration and deep infiltration. The quantitative contribution of soil moisture to the water budget is not negligible, even in global scale, as it plays a central role in the flobal water cycle by controlling the water energy, and biogeochemical cycles at the earth's surface. The spatial and temporal distribution of soil moisture is highly variable. Factors controlling the spatial and temporal variability comprise topography, soil properties, aspect, land use, management practices, vegetation, precipitation, solar radiation and specific contributing area. This contribution is focused on the description of the long-term spatio-temporal variability of the soil water content in the small scale catchment.
