Computational investigation of fine glass-bead slurry flow in horizontal pipe
Original language description
Numerical simulations have been carried out regarding the turbulent flow of glass beads with mean diameter of 180 μm in a 100 mm horizontal pipe, for slurry velocity up to 4 m/s and four overall concentrations from about 10 to about 35%. Use is made of the extension of the Eulerian, two-fluid, Inter-Phase Slip Algorithm of Spalding to dense liquid-solid flows proposed by Messa and Malavasi [1]. First, the model predictions of pressure gradient and concentration profiles were validated against measurements collected at the Institute of Hydrodynamics in Prague [2]. Afterwards, the numerical results provided clearer insight into the fluid dynamic behavior of the slurry. Particularly, the effect of slurry velocity and overall concentration on the mean velocity profile of the solid phase and the slip velocity was discussed.
