Optical fibers have come to the Nobel price for physics
Original language description
Optical fibers for telecommunications have come to the Nobel price for physics in 2009, more than 43 years after publication of Kao and Hockham?s paper in July 1966, now considered as the birthday of fiber optic communications. Many brilliant minds contributed to the creation of optical fibers and although Kao indeed played distinctive pioneering role, the Nobel price to some extent honors also the idea itself and the people, who contributed to it. The article describes several circumstances of fiber optics beginning.
