A chromium-doped saturable absorber fiber stabilizes an otherwise spontaneously chaotically selfpulsing ytterbium-doped fiber laser. This original passively Q-switched all-fiber laser produces sustained and relatively stable trains of smooth pulses at ahigh repetition rate.
