Nanoparticles-doped silica-glass-based optical fibers: fabrication and application

  • Original language description

This chapter about silica-based optical fibers doped with nanoparticles comprises the technology of optical fiber preparation and the applications of these fibers. Special attention is given to active fibers doped with ceramic nanoparticles for lasers and amplifiers, nevertheless, fibers for sensing applications are discussed as well. The chapter is divided into five sections. The introduction is followed by a basic description of silica-based optical fibers. The middle part is devoted to the discussion of the role of nanoparticles in optical fibers, while the fourth subchapter deals with the technology of optical fiber preparation, the last one discusses various nanoparticles that can be used for doping of silica-based optical fibers.
