Original language description
Recent findings showed that some species didn't respond to the Quaternary climate change by distribution shifts southwards. Instead, the ability of species to survive in 'northern' refugia becomes important. Our genetic study of bank voles in the Carpathians added weight to this concept and provided the clearest phylogeographic evidence to date of a northern glacial refugium for temperate species in Europe.

Czech description
Nové studie ukazují, že některé druhy na čtvrtohorní klimatické změny nereagovaly posunem areálu rozšíření k jihu, jak se předpokládáno. Namísto toho přibývá důkazů o tom, že řada druhů přežívala v "severních" refugiích. Naše genetická studie norníka rudého v Karpatech tento koncept zásadním způsobem podpořila a poskytnula originální pohled na původ moderních společenstev lesních druhů v Evropě a na způsob, jakým druhy reagovaly na klimatickou změnu.
