Original language description

Until now only a small number of early medieval Bohemian and Moravian swords have been metallographically examined. The sword from Kanín represents a nice example of a very efficient 10th century weapon with carburized or steeled and subsequently quenched cutting-edges and documents the wealth of the men who used the burial place in the vicinity of the Libice stronghold, which was one of the most important settlements of the early medieval Bohemia.

Czech description

Do současné doby byl metalograficky zkoumán pouze malý počet středověkých mečů z Čech a Moravy. Meč z Kanína představuje hezký příklad dokonalé zbraně z 10. století s kaleným ostřím a dokumentuje bohatství muže (nález z hrobu v blízkosti hradiště Libice,které je jedním z nejdůležitějších nalezišť raného středověku v Čechách).
