The fall of the ‘Iron curtain’ brought about many important changes in Czech archaeology, which are also seen in approaches to research on the Bronze Age. These changes are the result of new possibilities for the free application of various theoretical approaches, as well as of previously inaccessible research methods. The aim of this paper is to describe the qualitative shift in knowledge which has been achieved since 1989 thanks to these new possibilities. Instead of systematic excavation, rescue-oriented survey work started. Many of these projects acquired important information, but only a few excavations have been published (e. g. Velim – Skalka). Likewise a lot of research projects were realised on Bronze Age topics. In the last few years non-destructive approaches have been intensively applied, notably geophysical research, aerial survey, airborne laserscanning etc. Another phenomenon is the rise of prospection by metal detector, unfortunately in the hands of amateurs. Thanks to the cooperation with some of them, many new hoards and another metal objects were rescued and documented. In recent years intensive cooperation with the Natural Sciences, notably archaeobotany, archaeozoology, anthropology, has begun. The number of radiocarbon dates for the Bronze Age increases every year. The latest information about the Bronze Age in Bohemia has been published in a modern synthesis.
