Original language description
Belt fittings are an important and multi-layered source not only in socio-cultural terms, but also symbolically. This chapter aims to analyse and interpret an exceptional cast fitting of the main strap of the decorated belt of the Byzantine-late Avar type found in 2022 in the Tismice production and supraregional centre (central Bohemia, Czech Republic). Among more early medieval fittings from this site, this main belt fitting found in the southern part of the suburb is quite unique. The front side contains a depiction of two persons, the motif, its dating and symbolic significance is discussed in detail.
