Original language description

The chapter deals with the choral tradition and compositional style that appeared in Bohemia and Central Europe around 1400 and influenced the establishment of the strophic song as a new genre of church repertory in the fifteenth century. The work of Prague Archbishop John of Jenstein, one of the most prolific late medieval composers of choral chant, his contemporary Zawissius, and other authors from various monasteries in Bohemia and Moravia shed new light on the Central European devotional repertoire of the early fifteenth century.
