Dry grassland biodiversity conservation using low-intensity sheep and goat grazing management: case study in Prague (Czech republic)

  • Original language description

After abandonment, the area of dry grassland is declining due to a gradual overgrowing by woody species and tall grass species. Six years after introduction of a low intensity sheep and goat grazing in seven nature reserves on the territory of Prague, there was observed the following impact: 1)Cover of expansive woody species (Ligustrum vulgare, Cornus sanguinea and Prunus spinosa) has declined. 2)Significant, long-term declining trend of the expansive species Arrhenatherum elatius was observed. 3)Coverof character species of dry grassland (Festuco-Brometea) has increased significantly. 4)There were no changes observed in the number and cover of the Red List species. 5)Presence of nitrophilous and ruderal species has increased. 6)The species diversitysignificantly increased. From our findings we could conclude that management of dry grassland due to low intensity grazing can help to keep dry grassland vegetation in good condition and to conserve its biodiversity.

Zachování diversity skalních stepí pomocí regulované pastvy ovcí a koz: případová studie v Praze (Česká republika)

  • Czech description

Skalní stepi pražských CHÚ zarůstají dřevinami a vysokými travami. Závěr: Regulovaná pastvamůže pomoci zachování stepní vegetace a druhové diversity.
