List of cryosestonic microorganisms in central part of the highest continental Spain mountains Sierra Nevada. The green alga Chlamydomonas nivalis dominated the majority of snow fields whereas Chloromonas nivalis prevailed in the majority of other localities. Chloromonas brevispina was also recorded but was rarely dominant. Fungi were represented by Selenotila nivalis, cf. Rhodosporidium toruloides, Alternaria sp., cf. Myzocytium and cf. Cochlonema
