Nonadaptive processes governing early stages of polyploid evolution: Insights from a primary contact zone of a relict serpentine Knautia arvensis (Dipsacacee)
Original language description
We found segregation of coexisting diploids and tetraploids of K. arvensis at all investigated spatial scales (from across the entire serpentine body to microspatial); however, this segregation was not driven by an ecological shift following genome duplication. The spatial cytotype structure was likely shaped by nonadaptive processes, including the founder effect, limited seed dispersal, and/or plant longevity or clonality.
