Comparison of extraction techniques for isolation of steroid oestrogens in environmentally relevant concentrations from sediment

  • Original language description

The least expensive and time-consuming method QuEChERS provided the best extraction recoveries (53–84%) from all techniques. Microwave-assisted extraction provided extraction recoveries (50-71%) for less polar estrogens using dichlormethane:aceton 3:1 (90°C, 5 min), but for extraction of whole group of estrogens including more polar estriol acetone or methanol must be used. Accelerated solvent extraction provided extraction recoveries (53-74%) for less polar estrogens using dichlormethane at 60°C however, the repeatability of results was unsatisfactory and recoveries using other extraction conditions were lower than for microwave-assisted extraction. Soxhlet warm extraction was totally unsuitable for this purpose.
