Original language description
This paper describes the Royal Forest of Pilis in the Middle Ages. It concludes that the western European institution of Royal Forests had its parallel in Hungary in the 13th century, but later on developments differed. Based on settlement history, medieval woodland cover was probably similar to that of today, and this continuity plays an important part in the region being part of a National Park.
