The role of plant substrate type in shaping the composition and diversity of epiphytic diatom assemblages in a eutrophic reservoir
Original language description
Epiphytic diatom communities from the Dehtář fishpond (Czech Republic) were studied in terms of species composition, diversity and functional traits. Diatom communities were investigated on altogether 11 vascular plant and 1 charophyte species, mainly amphibious wetland annuals and aquatic plants. We did not find any clear relationship between a particular diatom and plant or charophyte species. However, there were significant differences in species richness among the sampled plant and charophyte species as well as in representation of functional groups of diatoms among the samples. We concluded that the structure and chemical composition of plants as well as hydrological factors of the water body are among the most important factors shaping the diversity of epiphytic diatom assemblages in eutrophic reservoirs.
