Complex pattern of ploidal nad genetic variation in Seseli libanotis (Apiaceae)
Original language description
Using flow cytometry we explored the cytogeography of Seseli libanotis in Central Europe and 16 several adjacent areas. We detected diploids and tetraploids, but no triploids. Whereas diploids 17 are distributed nearly all across the study area, tetraploids occur in Czechia, the Pannonian 18 lowlands of northeastern Austria and western Slovakia, in southeastern Slovakia, in the Eastern 19 Carpathians and the Apuşeni Mts in Romania, and in Croatia. The distribution of cytotypes is 20 nearly allopatric. Only in some regions on the northern border of the Pannonian basin, in 21 southern Poland and in Romania does they occur in parapatry. Only one mixed-ploidy 22 population has been detected in Poland. In Czechia and Slovakia we found only marginally 23 significant differences in the elevational distribution of cytotypes, tetraploids exhibit a broader 24 elevational range and prevail lower above sea level. Using sequencing of the trnL-trnF region 25 of cpDNA we detected high haplotype diversity without any clear correlation with 26 cytogeography.
