An unexpected new diploid Hieracium from Europe: Integrative taxonomic approach with a phylogeny of diploid Hieracium taxa
Original language description
This paper describes a new diploid Hieracium species from eastern Europe and its involvement in an allopolyploid apomict composed of three genomes. The new species is one out of only ca 25 diploid Hieracia and forms a separate lineage in phylogenetic analyses of all diploids. Its triploid derivative contains one haplome of the new species, the other donors were identified with molecular and cytogenetic markers. The study highlights the importance of interspecific hybridization for an evolutionary shift from sexuality to apomixis in Hieracium.
