Conservation and restoration of Central European fens by mowing: A consensus from 20 years of experimental work
Original language description
Local nature of management experiments prevents general conservation recommendations. We analysed data from seven management experiments in Central European fens. Mowing appeared essential for spring fen vegetation across habitats and regions. Cessation or restoration of mowing usually caused a rapid response of fen vegetation. It can take decades for fen vegetation to respond to changes in mowing timing.
