Morphological and environmental differentiation as prezygotic reproductive barriers between parapatric and allopatric Campanula rotundifolia agg. cytotypes
Original language description
Central Europe is a region where diploid, tetraploid, and hexaploid Campanula rotundifolia individuals coexist. The lack of mixed ploidy populations and interploidy hybrids indicates effective reproductive isolation. Its strength and mechanisms vary between different cytotypes (triploid block between diploids and polyploids versus environmental niche shift between higher polyploids). Polyploidy and environment influence leaf and shoot morphology, while flower morphology depends exclusively on the cytotype.
