Original language description
In nine out of ten European regions studied, both the initial native occupancy of plant species and their subsequent expansion correlated positively with their global naturalization success. This indicates that species spreading as naturalized aliens worldwide are often also expanding within their native ranges. These findings highlight that incorporating native occupancy dynamics into invasion risk assessments could improve prevention of future invasions.
