Original language description
In this research I examined the effects of host-specific soil inoculum, including target and competitor species inoculum, and non-specific inoculum on pairwise interactions of four pairs of grassland perennials. I found that host-specific inoculum can promote plant coexistence by increasing niche differences and reversing competitive dominance. These effects persisted throughout the experimental period (of 27 months) but were absent after nutrient addition. Therefore, host-specific inoculum is less likely to mitigate competitive inequality and preventcompetitive exclusion after anthropogenic fertilisation.
