Throughout the 1990s, discussion about Central European culture has been dominated by metaphor of space. With regard to changes on the geopolitical map of Europe, the prevailing issues included relationship between center and periphery. Today both geographical and historical perspectives seem inadequate. An alternative approach consisting of the specific contextualization is suggested.

Během devadesátých let diskusi o středoevropské kultuře dominovala metafora prostoru. Vzhledem ke změnám na geopolitické mapě Evropy, byla tematizována především otázka po vztahu mezi centrem a periferií. Z dnešního hlediska je však, jak geografická, takhistorická perspektiva nepřijatelná. V příspěvku se pokouším naznačit odlišný přístup, jenž sestává ze specifické kontextualizace středoevropské kultury
