The article examines the political thought of three prominent Bohemian Protestant exiles: Pavel Stránský, Ondřej Habervešl of Habernfeld and Jan Amos Comenius. By analysing their writings, the author shows how they perceived Bohemian statehood in relation to the Czech nation. He also focuses on the discussion of the role of religion within the state and analyses the idea of an elect nation used by the exiled Protestants. In doing so, he shows that various concepts of statehood and nationhood coexisted in these works. In conclusion, the article touches on the question of which elements of the early modern discourse of state and nation might have been acceptable for modern nationalism and which were overlooked.

Studie se zabývá politickým myšlením tří významných českých pobělohorských exulantů: Pavla Stránského, Ondřeje Habervešla z Habernfeldu a J. A. Komenského. Autor analyzuje jejich hlavní díla a ukazuje jejich koncepci české státnosti ve vztahu k českému národu. Všímá si rovněž, jakým způsobem pojímali náboženskou otázku ve vztahu ke státu, a rozebírá myšlenku vyvoleného národa, jež byla exulanty využívána. Rozbor prací jmenovaných exulantů vede k závěru, že různá pojetí státnosti a národa v jejich dílechkoexistovala. V závěrečné části studie se autor dotýká i problému, jaké prvky raněnovověkého myšlení o státu a národu mohly být přijatelné pro moderní nacionalismus a které zůstaly nevyužity.
