    The Civic and the Proletarian

  • Original language description

This essay analyzes the relationship between the concepts of "the civic" and "the proletarian" in modern society. It criticizes the uncritical adopting of "civil society" as the leading concept of contemporary democracy. It argues that the uncritical useof the concept of "civil society" can lead to the exclusion of "uncivil" (for example, "proletarian") elements from the field of legitimate public engagement.
