guiding idea was to move the tension between corporeity and affectivity in Merleau-Ponty?s thought from a position of mediation to that of the center. This emerged as a striking thematic and conceptual tension in the conference, namely the tension between Merleau-Ponty?s phenomenology and classical Husserlian phenomenology. While the latter tends to concentrate on subjective experiences and affectivity in immanence, Merleau-Ponty?s interest is focused more on science and the world. Drawing on the way inwhich behavior and expression of living embodied beings is explored in sciences in terms of physicality, and in literature and art in terms of lived embodiment, Merleau-Ponty provides a point of departure for reconsidering corporeity and affectivity. The present volume, Corporeity and Affectivity, particularly focuses on this tension within the phenomenon of corporeity, which, in fact, involves a tension within philosophical reflection itself.
