The article reflects on the specific language and style of the Latin rubrics that are commonly found in medieval Easter dramas. The analysis is focused mostly on the style and vocabulary of rubrics, exploring and commenting on the several language levelsthey manifest (liturgical, theatrical and biblical) in relation to the roots and the origin of Easter drama and its form. The article includes numerous quotations in Latin of rubrics recorded in Latin Easter dramas, collected from sources preserved in different monastic communities and cathedral libraries of medieval Europe.
