The Aesthetic Illusion in Literature and the Arts
Original language description
As defined by Werner Wolf, the notion of aesthetic illusion relates to a 'pleasurable mental state that emerges during the reception of many representational texts, artifacts or performances', it amounts to the reader's, viewer's, or listener's sense ofhaving entered the represented world while at the same time keeping a distance from it. The conference dealt with some of the key theoretical questions concerning this issue (the role of affect and emotion in the aesthetic illusion; the implications of the notion of aesthetic illusion for the theory of fiction; the variable forms of aesthetic illusion across different media).
