Gaston Bachelard's Topology of the Image
Original language description
Bachelard's Poetics of the Space uncovers how imagination, image in space, and poetic thinking fundamentally correspond with what is being, especially what a human being is and how can it be thought. The aim of this paper is to show that this correspondence has two important characteristics: it is dramatic and topological. The emphasis on topology implies that the relationships between the concepts such as image, imagination, being, thinking, and meaning have to be described in a peculiar spatial constellation, so that their specific form of interdependence remains evident. The emphasis on the dramatic character of these relationships implies that the constellation is not a fixed network of static and closed domains of meaning, but that it involves thetransformation of these domains and the performative generation of their meaning.
