'Ipsa dicit, quod sic est, ergo verum.' Authority of Scripture, the Use and Sources of Biblical Citations in the Work of Jerome of Prague

  • Original language description

The study shows that Jerome of Prague considered Scripture as the highest authority. It also reveals that the absolute majority of Jerome's frequent scriptural citations in support of his philosophical and theological views is not taken directly from theBible. Jerome derived many of these citations from Wyclif's treatises De ideis, De universalibus, De dominio Divino, and Trialogus; Augustine's treatise De doctrina christiana; and also Chalcidius's commentary on Plato's Timaeus.
