The Compactata of Basel in Enea Silvio Piccolomini’s Letters, Speeches and Official Documents
Original language description
The study deals with the interpretation of the Compactata of Basel in selected writings and speeches of Enea Silvio Piccolomini from 1451-1464. It primarily analyses Enea’s thoughts on the benefits of the Compactata as well as his observations on alleged transgressions of these treaties. Besides, the study aims to answer the question to what extent Enea’s argumentation changed over time. In the case of the 1462 cancellation of the Compactata, writings/speeches of two utraquists are additionally analysed.
