Phenomenality and Self-Consciousness
Original language description
According to an influential view, held, e.g., by Aristotle, Franz Brentano and currently by Uriah Kriegel, Galen Strawson and Michelle Montague, each conscious state necessarily and constitutively involves awareness of that very conscious state. The talks at this workshop will examine the plausibility of this view as well as its relation to the metaphysical theory of Russellian Monism. The workshop aims to provide a platform for dialogue of thinkers from varied philosophical backgrounds, including continental phenomenology, the analytic philosophy of mind and the history of philosophy.
