Reading the Early Church: A Witness from Kutná Hora of the Chronicon pontificum et imperatorum by Martin of Opava

  • Original language description

The chapter analyzes content of one manuscript codex created in the second half of the 15th century. The codex was created by a kuttenberger laywer Petr Přespole of Prague. The codex contains texts of different genres and of various characters, this study argues that there are connections between recorded texts. The majority of recorded texts speak about the apostles and early church, therefore the whole codex seems to be a peculiar handbook for a discussion on early church in hussite Bohemia. Also, the study argues that the chronicle by Martin of Opava recorded here can be read not only as a narrative of historical development, but also as a narrative witnessing changes made contrary to the practice of early christian church.
