This article aims to contribute to the recent discussion about the interpretation of the Elephant Mosaic Panel, which was revealed at Horvat Huqoq site in 2013 and 2014 and subsequently published in 2017. It is proposed that the best candidate for the story depicted on the Elephant Mosaic Panel is the story about the Maccabean martyrs as recorded in the 2 Maccabees and as understood in its reception.
